The Acalanes Dons's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 67-51 bruising from Benicia. While losing is never fun, Acalanes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 457th, while Benicia is ranked 137th).
When it comes to explaining why Acalanes lost, one person who can't be blamed is Liam Krackeler. Despite the final result, he scored 14 points along with eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Quinn, who scored ten points.
Acalanes has not been sharp recently, as they've lost ten of their last 13 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. As for Benicia, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Acalanes will challenge Alhambra at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Alhambra focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Saturday. As for Benicia, they will head out on the road to face off against Berean Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
