Ashe County is 1-9 against Alexander Central since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 78-38, which was the final score in Ashe County's tilt against Watauga on Friday. While losing is never fun, Ashe County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 430th, while Watauga is ranked 118th).
The losing side was boosted by Eli Lemly, who scored six points along with ten rebounds.
While Alexander Central couldn't quite beat Freedom on Friday, the two-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 23-point defeat they were dealt on Wednesday. Alexander Central fell just short of Freedom by a score of 59-57. Alexander Central has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite their loss, Alexander Central saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Chad Lasher, who scored 17 points, was perhaps the best of all. Lasher has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. Jaheim Redmond was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 11 assists.
Ashe County's record now sits at 6-12. As for Alexander Central, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season.
Ashe County didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Alexander Central in their previous meeting on January 12th, but they still walked away with a 54-48 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Ashe County since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
