Gibson Southern is on a five-game streak of home wins, while Evansville Memorial is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Titans will welcome the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Gibson Southern is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They blew past Vincennes Lincoln 50-12. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Titans' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana football rankings (they are ranked 30th, while the Alices are ranked 121st).
Zach Foster had another great game (as he tends to do), throwing for 125 yards and three TDs while completing 73.3% of his passes, and also rushing for 83 yards.
Gibson Southern didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Vincennes Lincoln to a completion percentage of just 36.8%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from three players: Lloyd Sellers, Eli Stone, and Ian Maikranz, who each logged one passes deflected. Gibson Southern has been improving in that area: they had allowed a completion percentage of 0.63 earlier this season, but they've only allowed one of 0.63 in their last three games.
The home team had come away the winner the last five times Evansville Memorial and Castle had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Tigers breezed past the Knights to the tune of 37-7 last Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Tigers have posted against the Knights since October 12, 2018.
Evansville Memorial's win came from a few key players Gibson Southern will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Dylen Kendrick, who rushed for 122 yards and a pair of scores. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Brown, who threw for 278 yards and two touchdowns.
One reason for the win was Evansville Memorial's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Brady Combs was especially locked on to Castle's QB and sacked him twice. Combs has been hot recently, having also posted six or more total tackles the last four times he's played.
Evansville Memorial's victory bumped their record up to 9-0. As for Gibson Southern, their win bumped their record up to 9-1.
Gibson Southern took a serious blow against Evansville Memorial in their previous meeting back in November of 2018, falling 56-28. Can the Titans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
