The Wellsville Eagles will square off against the Prairie View Buffalos at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Things were looking good for Wellsville after they put the first run on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Iola by a score of 5-4. The Eagles have struggled against the Mustangs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Taylar Spring was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Prairie View had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 15-2 margin over the Trojans. Considering the Buffalos have won seven matches by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Bella Stolle was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 12 contests.
In other batting news, Rian Stainbrook and Charly Gregg did most of the damage at the plate: Stainbrook went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two doubles, while Gregg went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave Gregg a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kadance Shelton, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.
Prairie View was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .545. They are 8-3 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Prairie View's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-10. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for Wellsville, their loss dropped their record down to 10-14.
Prairie View's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Wellsville has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Prairie View, though, as they've been averaging 9.2 hits. Given Wellsville's sizable advantage in that area, the Buffalos will need to find a way to close that gap.
Wellsville suffered a grim 14-2 defeat to Prairie View in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Eagles have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
