Coquille extended their losing streak to eight on Friday, dropping them down to 3-15. They came up short against the Siuslaw Vikings, falling 24-15. Even if the Red Devils couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Jasmine Lockwood was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Payton Pugmire, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and three runs.
As for Siuslaw, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-12. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Siuslaw's side, Che Bruce made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, Bruce posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Chloe Clark was a standout: she got on base in six of her seven plate appearances with four runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Taylie Venegas was another key player, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI.
While Coquille had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
