Having just played yesterday, the Monsignor Pace Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the McArthur Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on January 17th. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Monsignor Pace suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Tuesday. They were the victim of a rough 68-46 loss at the hands of Dr. Krop.
Despite the loss, Monsignor Pace saw an underclassman step up: Easton Gelin dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Gelin scored 15 or more points. Justin Bridges was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 62-29, which was the final score in McArthur's tilt against Blanche Ely last Tuesday. While losing is never fun, McArthur can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 519th, while Blanche Ely is ranked 60th).
Monsignor Pace has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-7 record this season. As for McArthur, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-10.
Monsignor Pace strolled past McArthur in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 by a score of 52-37. The rematch might be a little tougher for Monsignor Pace since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
