Anacostia has won four straight games at home, while Coolidge has won four straight on the road dating back to last season, but those streaks won't matter much on Wednesday. The Anacostia Indians will host the Coolidge Colts at 5:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Anacostia is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of District of Columbia's top teams: Phelps Architecture, Construction & Engineering, who was ranked 15th at the time (Anacostia was ranked 14th). Anacostia breezed by Phelps Architecture, Construction & Engineering to the tune of 68-12 on Friday. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 41-6.
Anacostia got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Nayjah Duvall out in front who dropped a triple-double on 17 points, ten rebounds, and ten assists. Duvall is becoming a predictor of Anacostia's success: when she posts at least ten assists the team is 7-3 (and 0-6 when she doesn't). Another player making a difference was Ta'Shaun Robinson, who went 9 of 15 on her way to 22 points.
Duvall wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Anacostia was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.
Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Coolidge's strategy against Cardozo on Wednesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Coolidge blew Cardozo out of the water with a 67-5 final score. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Colts had established a 56 point advantage.
Anacostia has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 7-9 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 21.4 points per game. As for Coolidge, their victory bumped their record up to 17-1.
Anacostia might still be hurting after the 48-23 loss they got from Coolidge in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Coolidge's Josslyn Derricott, who posted 14 points in addition to eight boards and seven steals. Now that Anacostia knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
