It was a good run, but the Clover Blue Eagles unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 75-67 loss to Gaffney. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
When it comes to explaining why Clover lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jaylon Hoover. Despite the final result, he scored 17 points along with five rebounds. Hoover scored a full 25.4% of Clover's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Devin Agard was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Even though they lost, Clover were working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gaffney only racked up 23 assists.
It was another big night for Markell Hollis, who scored 23 points along with six rebounds for Gaffney. The team also got some help courtesy of Shedrick Sarratt, who scored nine points along with ten rebounds.
Clover's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-7. As for Gaffney, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season.
Clover won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Mauldin at 2:30 p.m. on January 6th. Averaging 68.4 so far this season, Mauldin's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Clover better be ready for a challenge. As for Gaffney, they will head out on the road to face off against Spartanburg at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
