Granger is 7-1 against Hillcrest since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Lancers will venture away from home to square off against the Huskies at 3:30 p.m. Granger has given up an average of 12.3 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Granger will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs last Thursday, then bounced right back against Corner Canyon on Friday. The Lancers walked away with a 14-11 victory over the Chargers. Considering the Lancers' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Haylie Harper was a standout: she scored three runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Pianola Tuaone, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Harper wasn't the only one making solid contact: Granger kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for the Lancers: they were averaging 5.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 10.6.
Meanwhile, Hillcrest had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Miners. 12 seems to be a good number for the Huskies as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Abigail Hitchcock made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.
In other batting news, Hillcrest got a massive performance out of Savil Hughes, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Hughes has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Bailey Terry was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.
Hillcrest pushed their record up to 7-8 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Granger, their record is now 4-10.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Granger has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .452. However, it's not like Hillcrest struggles in that department as they've averaged .437. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Granger's way against Hillcrest in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Granger made off with a 14-4 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lancers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
