The Orr Spartans waltzed into their matchup Thursday with three straight wins but they left with four. They snuck past Dyett with a 38-33 win. Given Orr's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 205th, while Dyett is ranked 433rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Orr got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Mariah Joiner out in front who scored four points along with ten rebounds and five steals. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Nia Crawford, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Orr pushed their record up to 6-3 with that victory, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.6 points per game. As for Dyett, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-10.
Orr and Bloom will round out the year against one another at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday at. Dyett will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Lindblom at 5:00 p.m. on January 10, 2024. Lindblom has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 27.
