The Owen Warhorses's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Mountain Heritage, falling 72-32. While losing is never fun, Owen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 521st, while the Cougars are ranked 40th).
Despite the loss, Owen had strong showings from Ellie Martin, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and five steals, and Elly Wright, who scored five points along with two steals and two blocks. Martin also posted two blocks for the first time this season.
Owen has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-16 record this season. As for Mountain Heritage, the win (which was their 13th in a row) raised their record to 17-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Owen won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Patriots at 6:00 p.m. on January 31st. Madison is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Mountain Heritage, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Vikings at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
