The Independence Patriots will venture away from home to square off against the Scott Skyhawks at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Independence is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
Independence is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of West Virginia's top teams: Shady Spring, who was ranked ninth at the time (Independence was ranked 24th). The Patriots fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 9-8 on Friday. The Patriots haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Andrew Coalson made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run. Micah Cuthbert was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, Scott came tearing into Saturday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Raiders with a sharp 14-8 victory. The Skyhawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.
Ryan Neal made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Neal was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kedron Elkins, who went 3-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Louden White, who went 2-for-6 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Scott always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .515 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Scott's record now sits at 18-8. As for Independence, their loss dropped their record down to 19-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Independence has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Scott struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Independence suffered a grim 14-4 defeat to Scott when the teams last played back in March of 2025. Can the Patriots avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
