It's playoff time, and Bishop McDevitt had no trouble coming through when it counted. They took down the Solanco Golden Mules 38-20 on Friday. Winning may never get old, but the Crusaders sure are getting used to it with their 11th in a row.
Bishop McDevitt's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jerome Larue Jr. led the charge by rushing for 100 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only ten carries. What's more, Larue Jr. posted two rushing touchdowns, the most he's had since back in September. Bishop McDevitt also got a significant boost from Nazir Jones-Davis, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 117 yards.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Bishop McDevitt was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 248 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 168 rushing yards in 11 consecutive matchups.
Despite the loss, Solanco still got an impressive performance from Kris Burgos-Wise, who rushed for 87 yards and two scores on only nine carries, and also picked up 30 receiving yards. Burgos-Wise also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, defending one pass and snagged an interception.
Bishop McDevitt's record is now 11-2. As for Solanco, with the defeat, they broke their 11-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-2.
Looking ahead, Bishop McDevitt will face off against Peters Township at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Crusaders will need to watch out since the Indians have now posted at least 31 points in their last five contests. Solanco does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
