Given Don Soffer Aventura's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 233rd, while Avant Garde Academy is ranked 671st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
George Gould was the offensive standout of the match as he scored 20 points. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Nimrod Amiel Eilon, who scored 13 points.
Meanwhile, Ransom Everglades struggled with offensive rebounds on Tuesday (Monsignor Pace had nine more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Ransom Everglades fell 44-35 to Monsignor Pace.
Despite the loss, Ransom Everglades saw an underclassman step up: Zeke Battier scored 24 points along with six rebounds. Battier scored a full 68.6% of Ransom Everglades' points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Julian Silvetz was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six rebounds.
Ransom Everglades struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Don Soffer Aventura's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Ransom Everglades, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.
Friday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy contest: Don Soffer Aventura have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 30.2 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Ransom Everglades, though, as they've been averaging only 25.5 rebounds per game. Given Don Soffer Aventura's sizeable advantage in that area, Ransom Everglades will need to find a way to close that gap.
