The Gateway Charter Griffins have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 37-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lehigh. Gateway Charter has not had much luck with Lehigh recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Several Griffins players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Emily Salas, who scored ten points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Salas has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Maria Juantorena, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
Lehigh's win on Thursday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Rianne Smith, who scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Smith hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Cordeyja Taylor, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds and eight steals.
Gateway Charter's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-5. As for Lehigh, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-4.
Gateway Charter won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against St. Joseph Academy at 1:00 p.m. on January 19th. Hopefully St. Joseph Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 last Tuesday. As for Lehigh, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Estero at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th. Estero is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.
