Basketball Game Preview: Southwest DeKalb Panthers vs. Northview Titans

Southwest DeKalb has gone 5-0 against Northview recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Southwest DeKalb Panthers will welcome the Northview Titans at 7:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Southwest DeKalb has six straight victories, Northview has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Last Thursday, Southwest DeKalb made easy work of North Springs and carried off a 71-48 win. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Southwest DeKalb's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Messiah Mergan, who went 9 for 15 on his way to 23 points and three steals, and Aaron Burks, who almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine boards. That's the most points Burks has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Ushery, who posted nine points in addition to five assists and five boards.

Southwest DeKalb smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Northview had to suffer through a 104-53 loss at the hands of Tucker. While losing is never fun, the Titans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 462nd, while the Tigers are ranked 104th).

Southwest DeKalb pushed their record up to 15-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Northview, their loss dropped their record down to 2-15.

Everything came up roses for Southwest DeKalb against Northview in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 68-32 win. In that contest, Southwest DeKalb amassed a halftime lead of 49-16, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Tuesday.
