The SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars came into Friday's match having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They blew past North Pitt 72-51. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 16 more assists than your opponent, as SouthWest Edgecombe did.
Leading SouthWest Edgecombe to victory were Xander Brown and Justin Bridgers. Brown scored 21 points, while Bridgers almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Zy Thigpen, who scored 12 points along with eight assists.
When it comes to explaining why North Pitt lost on Friday, one person who can't be blamed is Keymauri Brooks. Despite the final result, he scored 21 points. Brooks is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last eight games he's played. Zahmerrion Exum was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds.
SouthWest Edgecombe now has a winning record of 11-10. As for North Pitt, they dropped their record down to 2-17 with that loss, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Ayden - Grifton the next time they take the court. North Pitt will head out to face Ayden - Grifton at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while SouthWest Edgecombe will head out to face them at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday.
