Archbishop McNicholas has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. The Archbishop McNicholas Rockets and the Mars Fightin' Planets will round out the year against one another at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at. Hopefully Archbishop McNicholas focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Friday.
Even though Covington Catholic scored an imposing 58 points, Archbishop McNicholas still came out on top. Archbishop McNicholas sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 61-58 win over Covington Catholic. The victory was just what Archbishop McNicholas needed coming off of a 69-47 loss in their prior contest.
Archbishop McNicholas' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Andrew Ehlers, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds, and Grant Waters, who scored 24 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Ehlers has scored at least 25% of Archbishop McNicholas' points. Mitchell Conrad was another key contributor, scoring three points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Mars' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They fell just short of Trinity by a score of 55-53. That's two games in a row now that Mars has lost by exactly two points.
Archbishop McNicholas now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Mars, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.
Archbishop McNicholas took a serious blow against Mars in their previous meeting back in December of 2021, falling 74-43. Can Archbishop McNicholas avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
