The Cabrillo Conquistadores waltzed into Thursday's match with five straight wins but they left with six. They claimed a resounding 49-18 victory over Polytechnic on the road. The result was nothing new for Cabrillo, who have now won three games by 20 points or more so far this season.
Cabrillo's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sophia Austin, who scored 13 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Austin has scored at least 25% of Cabrillo's points. Natalie McCune was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Cabrillo's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Polytechnic, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.
Cabrillo won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Holy Martyrs Armenian at 6:00 p.m. on December 8th. Holy Martyrs Armenian will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 418th, while Cabrillo is ranked 166th). As for Polytechnic, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Pasadena at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
