Given Monterey Trail's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 35th, while Lincoln is ranked 479th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Monterey Trail to victory, but perhaps none more so than Brandon Gibson Jr, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Gibson Jr has scored at least 25% of Monterey Trail's points. Another player making a difference was Kentrell Kelly, who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds and three blocks.
Monterey Trail's win bumped their record up to 10-1. As for Lincoln, they have fallen quite a ways from their 30-3 record last season and are now at 4-9.
