Elkins is preparing for their first region matchup of the season on Monday. They will head out on the road to face off against the Fairmont Senior Polar Bears at 6:00 p.m. Fairmont Senior took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Elkins, who comes in off a win.
On Saturday, Elkins got the win against Calhoun by a conclusive 14-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.
Addison Carr made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. That's the first time she hasn't allowed a single hit since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, Elkins let Hailey Riffle and Gabby Mahanes run wild. Riffle scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5, while Mahanes went 2-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Joselynn Swecker, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Elkins lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Fairmont Senior was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They lost 12-2 to North Marion. The Polar Bears haven't had much luck with the Huskies recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Fairmont Senior saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Michaela Egidi, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Fairmont Senior's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Elkins, their record is now 2-0.
Elkins skirted past Fairmont Senior 14-13 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Elkins since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
