1A Region 7 recap Sept. 26, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Valley Head, who took down 386th ranked Gaylesville, 28-27.
The Trojans' John David Jennings recorded the longest rushing play in 1A Region 7 this season in his game against the Tigers last week. Jennings' team lost to Valley Head as he sprinted for 62 yards on the play and finished with 209 in all.
Brian Clowdis's team's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Cole Murphy threw for 140 and three touchdowns and Malachii Dutton had 109 yards receiving. Matthew Herrin helped Gaylesville's passing attack out by catching three balls for 20 yards.
Gaylesville's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Trojans feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Murphy has thrown for 327 yards and four touchdowns this season, while Dutton has 10 catches for 167 yards. Jennings leads the league in rushing with 453 yards.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when the Trojans take on Coosa Christian. Gaylesville's offense has racked up 50 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while the Conquerors have allowed only 169 on the year.
A big matchup in 1A Region 7 this week will be when Collinsville takes on Donoho. At the moment, the Panthers are in third, while the Falcons are in second.
Spring Garden moved up to 302 from 346 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 35-0 win over Coosa Christian helped the Panthers improve their standing.
