The Faith Christian Patriots will challenge the SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Faith Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Faith Christian easily dispatched Raleigh HomeSchool on Monday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Patriots fell just short of Clayton by a score of 5-3 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Patriots have suffered since April 10, 2024.
Tanner Trevathan was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run.
Meanwhile, SouthWest Edgecombe hadn't done well against Washington recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Cougars blew past the Pam Pack 9-1. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Jaelyn McLean made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Logan Bell was excellent, going 1-for-4 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tyson Ayers, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs.
SouthWest Edgecombe always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Washington only posted an OBP of .321.
SouthWest Edgecombe's record is now 12-4. As for Faith Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 16-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Faith Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like SouthWest Edgecombe struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Faith Christian came up short against SouthWest Edgecombe in their previous matchup back in March, falling 12-9. Can the Patriots avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
