Berthoud and Mead are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Spartans will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Mavericks at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Berthoud has now lost seven straight dating back to last season, leaving the team hunting for their first win since May 5.
Berthoud came up short against Severance on Monday, falling 13-7.
Gavin Kirk made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Anderson Austin was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two doubles.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Mead, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They walked away with a 9-6 win over Palmer Ridge on Saturday.
Kaleb Walter looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Mead got a massive performance out of Ryan St. Aubin, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one triple. That triple was St. Aubin's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ethan Elmore, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Mead pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Berthoud, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.
Berthoud might still be hurting after the 11-4 loss they got from Mead when the teams last played back in March of 2025. Will the Spartans have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
