Bakersfield Christian extended their winning streak to nine on Friday, bumping them up to 9-0. They walked away with a 24-14 victory over the Independence Falcons. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 53rd, while the Falcons are ranked 210th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Among those leading the charge was Lincoln Adame, who threw for 280 yards and three touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes. That's the most passing yards he has posted since back in October of 2024.
Bakersfield Christian didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Independence to a completion percentage of just 31.6%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from four players: Arnez Lee, Michael Smith, AJ Ramos, and Andre Calderon, who each logged one passes deflected. Bakersfield Christian hasn't an opponent to post a completion percentage of 0.36 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Bakersfield Christian's defense didn't let Gunter Golla Iii, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: John Heath, Robert Hernandez, and Karson Greer, who each picked up one sack apiece.
As for Independence, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 6-3. They have struggled against Bakersfield Christian recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Independence still got an impressive performance from Rickey Johnson, who rushed for 142 yards and a pair of scores.
Bakersfield Christian has already played their next matchup (against Garces Memorial), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Independence, they will face off against Bakersfield at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Falcons 12, the Drillers 8.4) so any points scored will be well earned.
