The Omaha Northwest Huskies's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their sixth straight loss. Their rough 98-75 loss to Millard South might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Omaha Northwest can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 206th, while Millard South is ranked 102nd).
When it comes to explaining why Omaha Northwest lost, one person who can't be blamed is Chiok John. Despite the final result, he shot 4-for-5 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 41 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points John has scored all season. Tony Smith was another key contributor, scoring six points along with four steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Millard South to victory, but perhaps none more so than Isaac Jensen, who scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Carter Margheim, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Omaha Northwest has not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-15 record this season. As for Millard South, their victory bumped their record up to 7-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Omaha Northwest will take on Jefferson at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in Jefferson's favor as the team sits on seven straight wins at home while Omaha Northwest has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. Millard South's road trip will continue as they head out to face Omaha Westside at 7:15 p.m. on February 9th. Hopefully Omaha Westside focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven last Friday.
