The Brighton Bulldogs are on the road again on Thursday and play against the Eaglecrest Raptors at 7:00 p.m. on December 14th. Hopefully Brighton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Saturday.
Last Saturday, Brighton came up short against Widefield and fell 48-35.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Haleyanna Martin, who scored seven points along with 15 rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that she pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Brynn Davis, who scored seven points along with five rebounds.
Eaglecrest has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matches by 23 points or more this season. They took their contest on the road on Saturday with ease, bagging a 53-20 victory over Grand Junction. Given Eaglecrest's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while Grand Junction is ranked 172nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Eaglecrest's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Danivea Hughes led the charge by scoring eight points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Those nine rebounds set a new season-high mark for Hughes. Shyann Farbes was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds.
Brighton's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Eaglecrest, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-2.
Thursday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Brighton have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 23.6 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Eaglecrest, though, as they've been averaging only 35.2 rebounds per game. Given Brighton's sizeable advantage in that area, Eaglecrest will need to find a way to close that gap.
Brighton took a serious blow against Eaglecrest in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, falling 70-22. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Brighton was down 36-12.
