Chico has gone a perfect 10-0 against Shasta recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Panthers will head out to take on the Wolves at 5:00 p.m. Chico is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Shasta will be up against a hot Chico squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Panthers walked away with an 8-5 victory over Durham on Monday.
Leah Cawthon was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on McKena Harvey, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double.
Chico was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2025.
Meanwhile, Shasta posted their closest win since March 5th two weeks ago. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over Central Valley. The win continues a trend for the Wolves in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now won six in a row.
Ryleigh Scarborough was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2025. Soleil Waterman also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Chico's record is now 6-2. As for Shasta, their record now sits at 3-7.
Shasta's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Chico has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.1 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Shasta, though, as they've been averaging only 1.7 strikeouts. Will Chico keep running through batters, or will the Wolves buck the trend?
Chico got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in May of 2025 against Shasta by a conclusive 15-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
