Lisbon is 8-2 against Madison since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Greyhounds will venture away from home to face off against the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. Lisbon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Lisbon and Winthrop, and Lisbon kept the tradition alive. The Greyhounds' pitcher stepped up to hand the Ramblers an 8-0 shutout on Monday. Considering the Greyhounds have won five matchups by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Cody Osmond made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Osmond wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cyrus Tefft, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI. Ayden Barr also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Madison came up short against Mount Abram on Wednesday, falling 9-1. The defeat continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their meetings with the Roadrunners: they've now lost seven in a row.
Madison also got a good showing from Jonathan Prosser, who pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That one hit allowed gave Prosser a new career-low.
Lisbon pushed their record up to 9-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Madison, their loss dropped their record down to 8-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Lisbon has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Madison struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Lisbon was able to grind out a solid win over Madison in their previous matchup back in April, winning 7-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Greyhounds since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
