After a string of 11 wins, the Sunnyside Blue Devils's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 49-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Georgetown. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Sunnyside came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 12th in Arizona, while Georgetown is ranked 127th in Texas).
Sunnyside's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Esabella Barajas, who scored 14 points. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Nayeli Nidez-Acu?a, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Sunnyside's loss dropped their record down to 15-2. As for Georgetown, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season.
Sunnyside is on the road again on Friday and play against Flowing Wells at 7:30 p.m. on December 29th. Hopefully Flowing Wells focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 last Thursday. Georgetown and Sunrise Mountain will round out the year against one another at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at. Sunrise Mountain is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games.
