The Somerset Academy Panthers will venture away from home to take on the Mater Lakes Academy Bears at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Somerset Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Somerset Academy was handed a seven-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Archbishop McCarthy 8-6.

Kareem Amer tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts.
At the plate, Meyer Cabrera and Jon Mora did most of the damage at the plate: Cabrera went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI, while Mora scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. What's more, Mora posted three hits, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Eric Vazquez also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Somerset Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Archbishop McCarthy only posted a batting average of .192.
Meanwhile, Mater Lakes Academy posted their closest victory since April 12, 2024 on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over Coral Gables.
Christopher Arredondo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run allowed (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Mater Lakes Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was JAMES GIL, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Mater Lakes Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-1-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs over those games. Somerset Academy's record is now 4-1.
Somerset Academy skirted past Mater Lakes Academy 3-1 in their previous matchup back in April of 2019. Will Somerset Academy repeat their success, or does Mater Lakes Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
