Brazos is 8-2 against Hempstead since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Brazos Cougars face off against Hempstead Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. Brazos will be strutting in after a victory while Hempstead will be coming in after a defeat.
Brazos barely beat Boling the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Brazos blew past Boling 10-1 on Friday. That looming 10-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Cougars yet this season.
Kaden Reising spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up seven Ks. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in February.
On the hitting side, Brazos let Luke Polasek and Carter Baros run wild. Polasek scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Baros scored a run while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Gunner Grigar, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Brazos always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .632. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Hempstead was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 7-4 to East Bernard.
Hempstead saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brayden DiIorio, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. DiIorio also hit a double, marking his first of the season.
The win made it two in a row for Brazos and bumps their season record up to 8-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Hempstead, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-11.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Brazos has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .465. However, it's not like Hempstead struggles in that department as they've averaged .436. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Brazos took their win against Hempstead in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 8-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Brazos since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
