After losing to the Calvary Christian Warriors the last time they met, the Gibbs Gladiators decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Gibbs secured a 57-52 W over Calvary Christian on Friday. Given Gibbs' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 41st, while Calvary Christian is ranked 231st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Gibbs to victory were Mathis Roberts and Jacob Daniels. Roberts scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, while Daniels scored 24 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Roberts has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Bobby Crawford, who scored four points along with seven rebounds and five blocks.
Calvary Christian's loss came despite strong showings from Ace Taylor and Ethan Sabec. Taylor scored 21 points along with nine rebounds and six assists, while Sabec scored 22 points along with seven rebounds. Taylor hasn't dropped below 15points for four straight games. Madden Geiger was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with six rebounds.
The victory makes it two in a row for Gibbs and bumps their season record up to 13-3. As for Calvary Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8.
Gibbs won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Tampa Catholic at 8:30 p.m. on January 13th. Tampa Catholic is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Calvary Christian, they will square off against Palmetto at 1:30 p.m. on Monday.
