The Leuzinger Olympians will square off against the Lawndale Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Leuzinger is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
Leuzinger lost 17-4 to Bishop Montgomery on Friday.
Natalia Ochoa was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Jacqueline (Jaycee) Chavez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Meanwhile, Lawndale waltzed into their matchup last Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Apaches as they made off with a 14-4 victory. The result was nothing new for the Cardinals, who have now won three contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
Mariah Esparza made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. Esparza was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Cynthia Palacios was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Margarita Rosales, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.
Lawndale was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are 4-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Leuzinger has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-5 record this season. As for Lawndale, they picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 4-5.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Leuzinger hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .389. However, it's not like Lawndale struggles in that department as they've averaged .386. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Leuzinger's way against Lawndale in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Leuzinger made off with a 12-1 victory. Do the Olympians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cardinals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
