Cape Fear is a perfect 10-0 against Jack Britt since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Cape Fear Colts will host the Jack Britt Buccaneers at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Cape Fear's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Douglas Byrd 29-0. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Colts considering their two-run performance the matchup before.
Caden Jeffrey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over four innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all six of his plate appearances with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Frank Welsh was a standout: he went 5-for-6 with five runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Landon Underwood, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
Cape Fear always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .654. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Jack Britt, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They were the clear victor by an 11-4 margin over Seventy-First on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Buccaneers considering their one-run performance the game before.
Like Cape Fear, Jack Britt also got a great game from a two-way player: Ryder Blackburn. Throwing, Blackburn didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Cameron Byers struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Blackburn has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Blackburn scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3, while Byers scored three runs and stole Four bases. while going 2-for-5. Byers also scored three runs, which is notable because Jack Britt is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-2 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cale Strickland, who scored three runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-4. Alex Jones was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Cape Fear's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-4. As for Jack Britt, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cape Fear hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .318. However, it's not like Jack Britt struggles in that department as they've averaged .316. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
