After losing to Merced the last time they met, El Capitan decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Gauchos snuck past the Bears with a 25-20 win on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Gauchos.
It was another big night for Aaliyah Simonian, who threw for 253 yards and three TDs, and also rushed for 53 yards and one touchdown. El Capitan's leading receiver Avnoor Bains was Simonian's top target yet again, picking up 113 receiving yards and one score.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to El Capitan's defense and their four sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Bains and Isabella Magana, who racked up all four sacks between them. El Capitan got some further help from Keely Castillo: she made ten total tackles and snagged an interception.
El Capitan's record is now 18-4. As for Merced, they moved to 20-4 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.
El Capitan does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Merced, they will take on Atwater at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Bears 11.6, the Falcons 11.8) so any points scored will be well earned.
