Lutheran (Rockford, Ill.) 35-34 on Saturday.
After trailing 21-13 at the half, the Crusaders went ahead on a touchdown with 10:00 to go in the fourth.
Byron saw its 8-point halftime lead fall to seven entering the fourth.
Lutheran missed two extra point attempts in the loss.
Nate Wieting made a difference for LHS. He caught three touchdowns.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 64-63 win for BHS.
The loss comes after Lutheran defeated Mendota 56-13 last week.
In a Big Northern - West game next week Byron (6-1) takes on Winnebago, and Lutheran (6-1) will go up against Stillman Valley also in a Big Northern - West game.
