Saint Francis Catholic Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jake Long, who rushed for 141 yards and two TDs on only 15 carries, and also threw for 192 yards and three touchdowns on only five passes. Those 192 passing yards gave Long a new career-high. Gabe Long was another key player, picking up 223 receiving yards and three scores.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Saint Francis Catholic Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 329 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 194 rushing yards in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, The Classical Academy of Sarasota faced Calvary Chapel Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Patriots managed a 45-40 win over the Eagles. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Patriots' offense, which had struggled in the games prior.
A big part of The Classical Academy of Sarasota's victory came down to the chemistry between Mason Knepp and his top target Jackson Schlabach. Knepp threw for 263 yards and four TDs while Schlabach picked up 183 receiving yards and three touchdowns. With that strong performance, Schlabach is now averaging an impressive 100.5 receiving yards per game.
The Classical Academy of Sarasota didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Schlabach, Knepp, and Gavin McBride picked up one apiece. Knepp also passed for four passing touchdowns, which is notable because The Classical Academy of Sarasota is undefeated when he posts at least three passing touchdowns, but 1-7 otherwise.
Saint Francis Catholic Academy has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 36.8 points over those games. As for The Classical Academy of Sarasota, their record now sits at 4-7.
