The Highland Rams will challenge the Skyline Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Highland is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.8 points per game this season.
Highland proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 39) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They slipped by South Summit 47-46.
Highland found their leader in sophomore Vada Foster, who posted 14 points in addition to eight assists and five boards. Foster is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Meredith Kimball, who scored eight points along with six steals and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Skyline strolled into their game on Tuesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They really took it to Hillcrest for the full four quarters, racking up a 55-25 victory. Fans of the Eagles have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.
Skyline's win came from a few key players Highland will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Norah Pearce, who shot 57% from the field en route to 16 points in addition to seven boards and seven blocks. Those seven blocks gave her a new career-high. Mia Johnson was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 11 points and nine assists.
Skyline smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Highland's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Skyline, their victory bumped their record up to 3-0.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Highland has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 36 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Skyline struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 43.3 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Highland lost to Skyline at home by a decisive 56-40 margin when the teams last played back in February. Thankfully for the Rams, Leelu Bare (who went 5-for-12 on her way to 13 points along with six assists and six rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
