Sacred Heart has gone a perfect 8-0 against Waggener recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Valkyries will challenge the Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. Sacred Heart is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Sacred Heart beat Spencer County 7-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Valkyries.
Emeline Brown was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs.
In other batting news, Isabella Boyd and Alice Calabrese did most of the damage at the plate: Boyd went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Calabrese went 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most hits Calabrese has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Tatum Etheridge, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Sacred Heart kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Spencer County only managed ten hits.
Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Waggener's offense. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 19-0 to Fort Knox, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Waggener's defeat dropped their record down to 11-4. As for Sacred Heart, their record is now 6-9.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sacred Heart hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .387. However, it's not like Waggener struggles in that department as they've averaged .379. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Sacred Heart took their victory against Waggener when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 19-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Valkyries since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
