Football Recap: Concord Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Concord couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They were beaten by the Merrillville Pirates 41-14 on Friday. The Minutemen's defeat signaled the end of their nine-game winning streak.

When it comes to explaining why Concord lost, don't look at CHAR'RESE BREVEARD. Despite the final result, he rushed for 114 yards and two TDs, and also picked up 45 receiving yards. BREVEARD is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in each of the last three games he's played.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Jacquarious Johnson and Cameron Jordan. Johnson rushed for 214 yards while picking up 9.7 yards per carry while Jordan rushed for 178 yards on only 12 carries. Those 214 rushing yards gave Johnson a new career-high.

Concord's loss dropped their record down to 11-2. As for Merrillville, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 11-2.

Concord does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Merrillville, they will challenge New Palestine at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 938 yards in their previous games.
