Ligonier Valley were successful in their last outing against Purchase Line, and they didn't afford Purchase Line any payback this time around. Ligonier Valley were fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Purchase Line 67-20. Followers of Ligonier Valley probably expected little less of the squad in a season in which they have collected five blowout victories.
Ligonier Valley's offense rushed out of the gates and came up with 54 first-half points. Purchase Line wasn't quite able to keep up, scoring 12 to make it 54-12 heading into the break. The Ligonier Valley defense stood its ground in the third quarter, giving up 0 and all but finishing the match.
Senior John Caldwell was the offensive standout of the match for Ligonier Valley, as he passed for 402 yards and 7 touchdowns. Near the top of the highlight reel was Caldwell's 67-yard TD bomb to Aaron Tutino in the second quarter. Junior Kyrie Miller was in the mix, too, providing Ligonier Valley with 2 touchdowns. The victory bumped their record up to 6-0. The defeat dropped Purchase Line's record to 1-5.
Next week Ligonier Valley take on Marion Center at 7:00 PM. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, Ligonier Valley and Marion Center will really light up the scoreboard. As for Purchase Line, they will face off against Penns Manor. Given that they both suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
