After flying high against the Viewmont Vikings last Friday, The Maple Mountain Golden Eagles came back down to earth. Maple Mountain took a 28-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of Box Elder on Friday. Maple Mountain was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Box Elder apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2016.
Maple Mountain's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Banks Jackson, who rushed for 114 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries, and also threw for 113 yards and a touchdown.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Box Elder to victory, but perhaps none more so than Daxton Sumko, who rushed for 177 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Damon Rodriguez, who rushed for 78 yards and a touchdown.
Maple Mountain's loss was their tenth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 6-6. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-2 Springville and 9-2 Lehi (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 62.6% over those games). As for Box Elder, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-2.
Maple Mountain does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Box Elder will face off against Olympus at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Olympus has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 155 points over their last four games.
