The Akron Tigers will head out on the road to challenge the Newfane Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Friday, everything went Akron's way against Cleveland Hill as Akron made off with a 50-28 victory. Given Akron's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 306th, while Cleveland Hill is ranked 630th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Newfane waltzed into their game on Thursday with seven straight wins but they left with eight. They claimed a resounding 72-42 victory over Royalton-Hartland on the road. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 39-19.
Ben Dickinson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. Capen Mac was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven assists and two steals.
The win makes it two in a row for Akron and bumps their season record up to 6-1. As for Newfane, they pushed their record up to 10-1 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road.
Akron ended up a good deal behind Newfane in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, losing 62-44. Can Akron avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
