Plymouth has gone a perfect 10-0 against Monroeville recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Big Red will head out to challenge the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Plymouth came up short against Mohawk and fell 14-10. The Big Red have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Lincoln Distl made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That stolen base marked the first that he snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Jarrett Burrer, who scored three runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Monroeville, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over St. Joseph Central Catholic on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won four matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Colt Clark made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Clark was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.
In other batting news, Reid Wasserman and Hudson Bauer did most of the damage at the plate: Wasserman scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Bauer scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Ethan Smiley was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Monroeville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Plymouth's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Monroeville, their record is now 4-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Plymouth has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Monroeville struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Plymouth was able to grind out a solid victory over Monroeville when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 7-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Big Red since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
