Things haven't been easy for Goliad, and their matchup on Friday only extended their streak of losses to three. They were dealt a punishing 45-7 defeat at the hands of Edna. The Tigers were down by 31-7 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
No one put up better numbers for Edna than Kacen Sanchez, who really brought his A game. He rushed for 142 yards and two TDs on 17 carries. Sanchez didn't help his team much against Yoakum last week, so this was a nice turnaround for him. Sanchez has never finished with more yards this season. More help came courtesy of Ethan Johnson, who was good for 15 tackles.
Edna's defense was a presence as well, and it made life painful for the QB and got past Goliad's offensive line for a total of four sacks. Leading the way was Michael Salazar and his two sacks.
They got one touchdown from Logan Capistran.
Goliad will take on Yoakum at 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday. If you head out to watch the game, expect to stay the whole 48 minutes: the MaxPreps rankings predict a close match. Edna will look to defend their home field against Industrial at 7:30 p.m. ET. Those two teams are strolling into their contest after big wins in their previous games.
