Postseason high school basketball takes centerstage this weekend with showdowns in Georgia and Texas headlining MaxPreps Top 25 action.
In Georgia, McEachern (Powder Springs) defeated No. 22 Grayson (Loganville) 57-56 in overtime in a second round Class AAAAAAA state tournament game – the Indians exacted revenge in a rematch of their regular season meeting that saw the nationally-ranked Rams emerge with a 74-66 victory.
In Texas, No. 23 Richardson defeated No. 24 South Grand Prairie (Grand
Prairie) 64-54 in UIL Class 6A state tournament action. Five-star junior
Cason Wallace poured in a game-high 33 points.
Also in UIL Class 6A state tournament action, No. 8 Waxahachie took down Ellison (Killeen) 78-67 and No. 9 Duncanville knocked off Mansfield 73-53 to advance to the regional semifinals.
No. 20 Simeon (Chicago) opened its campaign Thursday evening with a 72-68 victory Curie (Chicago). The Wolverines were paced by Michigan signee
Isaiah Barnes who poured in a game-high 28 points.
No. 13 Long Island Lutheran (Brookville, N.Y.) also opened their 2020-21 campaign over the weekend, defeating Portledge (Locust Valley, N.Y.) 85-47.
