Point Loma hasn't had much luck against Eastlake recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Point Loma Pointers will take on the Eastlake Titans in a tournament on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Point Loma sitting on three straight victories and Eastlake on four.
Point Loma proved they can win big on Monday (they won by eight) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Helix a 2-0 shutout.
The team relied heavily on Phoenix Brant, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Branden Keeling, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Eastlake posted their closest win since April 25, 2024 on Wednesday. They skirted past Scripps Ranch 5-4.
Beau Covell looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, JP Conero was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. That stolen base was his first of the season.
Eastlake hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Scripps Ranch struck out 12 times.
Eastlake pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Point Loma, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
Friday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Point Loma has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .442. However, it's not like Eastlake struggles in that department as they've averaged .439. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Point Loma came up short against Eastlake in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 7-2. Will Point Loma have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
