Even though the Phoenix Academy Firebirds scored an imposing 58 points on Wednesday, the Piedmont Classical Bobcats still came out on top. Piedmont Classical walked away with a 71-58 win over the Firebirds. The score was all tied up 29-29 at the break, but Piedmont Classical was the better team in the second half.
Piedmont Classical's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ge'Kayla Goins, who scored 17 points along with eight assists and five steals. Goins hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Keniya Waring, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Piedmont Classical is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 7-8 record this season. As for Phoenix Academy, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.
Piedmont Classical will head out on the road to take on the Yellowjackets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Phoenix Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on the Bobcats at 5:30 p.m. on February 16th.
