The Romeo Bulldogs are taking a road trip to challenge the Chippewa Valley Big Reds at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Romeo has four straight victories, Chippewa Valley has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Tuesday, Romeo made easy work of L'Anse Creuse North and carried off an 11-1 win. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by six runs or more this season.
Romeo got a massive performance out of Jess McLeod, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave McLeod a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Helena Murphy, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Romeo hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Chippewa Valley's offense. They came up short against Lutheran North on Tuesday, falling 10-0.
Romeo's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Chippewa Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 10-16.
Chippewa Valley's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Romeo has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .436. It's a different story for Chippewa Valley, though, as they've only averaged .342. Will they be able to contain Romeo's hitters?
Everything went Romeo's way against Chippewa Valley in their previous meeting back in April, as Romeo made off with a 9-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
